Abstract

This paper seeks to examine the notions of liberty linked to utility, according to the utilitarian tradition as something that generates the maximum happiness for the greatest number of people possible. Thus, it was used the concept of liberty proposed by the English philosopher John Stuart Mill, who understands it in a strictly individual context, grounded on permanent interests of man and on the minimal interference from others and from the public authority.
