Eschatology and resistance in Foucault and Agamben

Abstract

This paper investigates the articulation, within Michel Foucault’s thought, of some notions and concepts, in an incipient way, of what will be called, in Giorgio Agamben’s philosophy, theological genealogy of economy and government. By objecting the political economies of endless claims, Foucault mentions some forms of counter-conduct of eschatological order. Such references in his classes will be recovered and examined to exhaustion by Agamben when he works with notions of messianic time (time remaining) added to the notion of the Church as a foreign eschatological community.
