Abstract

In the series of articles on the book by Josef Früchtl - The impertinent self. A heroic history of modernity - presented in this Special Section of Inquietude by the Kinosophia Study Group, we developed the exposition of the internal divisions of the work relating to three layers of modernity. This article aims at the last dimension characterized by the hybridism of the Self. Our comment will follow the order of presentation of the text that comprises an interpretation of the concept of Übermensch in Nietzsche as a basis for understanding the constitution of the hero of the science fiction genre. The review of this concept will reveal an original understanding of it, which has the merit to suggest additions in the way we usually translate and conceptualize the German term for [Brazilian] Portuguese.
